New York City is always buzzing with energy, but a weekend there can be both exhilarating and surprisingly relaxing if you know where to go. Whether it’s your first visit or a returning trip, here’s my personal guide to making the most of a weekend in the Big Apple.

Where to Stay
The Mercer Hotel
For me, out of all the hotels I've stayed at in NYC, the Mercer is hands-down one of the best places to stay in NYC. The rooms have a peaceful European vibe, with large windows overlooking the courtyard that instantly make you feel at ease. Upon arrival, I loved the thoughtful welcome platter with a few little treats, and the staff could not have been more friendly.

The location is perfect too, right on Mercer Street, just steps from Greene Street at Soho. It’s a shopper’s dream, with luxury boutiques like Dior, Bottega Veneta, Anine Bing, Farm Rio, and more, making it easy to spend on your first day after breakfast window shopping or snagging something special.

Day One: Feel Like A Local
Breakfast: Pura Vida
Start your morning with a fresh and healthy meal at Pura Vida. I first discovered them in Miami, so I was thrilled to see them expand to NYC. Their smoothie bowls, fresh juices, and breakfast options make for a perfect start to your day.

Lunch: Ladurée
If you’re near SoHo, Ladurée is a must. This Parisian-inspired spot has beautiful desserts and meals, and their courtyard, especially in spring and summer it's like stepping into a fairytale, complete with flower petals falling from above. Perfect for a lunch break after shopping on Greene Street.

Afternoon Activities
After lunch, head over to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The art is stunning, the exhibitions are always fresh, and it’s easy to spend hours wandering. Right across the street is Albertine bookstore, a charming, Parisian inspired bookstore that feels like a secret gem.

Once you’ve explored the museum and bookstore, stop by Ralph’s Coffee nearby on Madison Avenue for a quick recharge. Grab a coffee and some treats, perfect for a little energy boost before your afternoon stroll. Enjoy sitting by the window and watch the city go by while enjoying your warm cup of coffee and a sweet snack.
Afterwards, step into Central Park for a scenic walk. In winter, the snow covered trees are magical, while in warmer months, the greenery and rowboats make for an idyllic afternoon. You might even stumble upon musicians playing live music, a true NYC experience.
Dinner: Baires Grill
For dinner, I recommend Baires Grill, an authentic Argentine restaurant near Broadway. The steaks and empanadas are incredible, and it’s a great spot to fuel up before catching a Broadway show. Don’t forget to snap some photos of the Times Square lights while you’re there!

Late Night: Mama Azul & Dessert
After the show, head to Mama Azul, a Mexican spot with fresh flavors, a fun soundtrack, and super friendly staff. It’s open late and perfect for a casual, lively bite to end the night.
And of course, no NYC night is complete without dessert, treat yourself to either Levain Cookies for their legendary chocolate chip cookies or Van Leeuwen Ice Cream with fun, inventive flavors.

Day Two: Greenwich Village & Beyond
Morning Coffee: Barachu
Start your second day in Greenwich Village, one of my favorite NYC neighborhoods. The vibe is quaint and charming, with streets perfect for wandering. Grab coffee and breakfast at Barachu, where everything is homemade. Their cinnamon roll is my personal favorite!
Exploring & Afternoon Activities
If you're looking for a cute day activity after breakfast would be to a fragrance-making experience, where you can create your own signature scent, making it an unforgettable souvenir from the city.
Lunch:
Leitão
For lunch, I love Leitão, a Portuguese spot with authentic flavors and a must-try pastel de nata dessert. The cozy, inviting atmosphere makes it a perfect stop for a relaxing midday break. Every bite feels authentically Portuguese, and it’s a great way to fuel up before continuing to explore Greenwich Village.

Afternoon Stroll & Street Fairs
Take your time exploring local shops, emerging brands, and cute boutiques. Greenwich also has charming streets to wander, often hosting street fairs during spring and summer.

Dinner: Double Zero
Before heading home, enjoy dinner at Double Zero, a vegetarian friendly spot with my favorite dishes being their margherita pizza and quinoa meatballs. The modern, airy space and creative menu make it a fun, satisfying way to end your NYC weekend. Even if you’re not fully vegetarian, it’s a fresh and flavorful experience worth trying.
NYC has so much to offer, from world-class art and shopping to hidden neighborhood gems. By the time you leave, you’ll feel like a local, even if only for a weekend.
