For PreFall 2026, we travel south to Mértola, a quiet corner of Portugal where the countryside unfolds in soft, sunlit fields and clusters of whitewashed houses overlook rolling hills. There is something wonderfully unhurried about the landscape, a simplicity and beauty that feels untouched by time.
At the heart of the collection is an appreciation for one of Portugal’s most nostalgic forms of craftsmanship, the handmade doily. Once a familiar part of Portuguese homes, these delicate pieces were carefully crocheted and crafted by women by hand, often becoming part of the everyday beauty of a home. We were drawn to the intricate patterns, the patience behind the craft, and the idea that something so simple could carry so much history. Familiar patterns are given new life through feminine silhouettes and unexpected combinations, creating pieces that feel both nostalgic and distinctly AITD.
The collection also draws from another unmistakable part of Portuguese visual culture, the azulejo. Inspired by the timeless blue and white tiles found throughout Portugal, we explore pattern and texture through tonal layering, patchwork, lace compositions, and carefully considered details.
There is a beautiful contrast throughout the collection, rustic craftsmanship paired with an effortless feminine touch, delicate lace alongside denim, traditional inspiration interpreted through contemporary silhouettes.
It isn't about recreating the past. It's about taking the things that have always carried meaning, Portuguese tradition, the beauty of the countryside, and the details found in everyday life.
